Before becoming the Sounds in 1974, the ABA franchise in Memphis was known as the Pros and the Tams. With singer/songwriter Isaac Hayes coming aboard as a partial owner in 74, and because Memphis had such strong musical roots, the team was renamed the Sounds. Unfortunately the Sounds lasted only one season, 1974-75. After the season they were sold to a new ownership group in Baltimore. The Memphis Grizzlies honored the city's first professional basketball team in the 2015 - 16 season by wearing the team's 74 - 75 uniforms.
